My daughter struggled when she was learning to ride a bike.

No matter how many times I explained it to her, she never got it.

I modeled how to ride a bike and she still didn’t get it.

There is only one way to learn how to ride a bike, and that’s to get on a bike.

She got on the bike, with training wheels and she started to learn how to ride a bike.

The training wheels came off and she fell down a few times, but she finally got it.

That’s the same way to learn about an auto-responder.

You need to try it out yourself.

No matter how many times someone explains it to you, you won’t get it.

Someone can model it for you and you still won’t get it.

You need to try it out yourself, and you will finally learn how to do it.

The Top 3 Money-Making “To Do” Activities

I’ve always been impressed with those who can take overwhelming
things and handle them with ease and poise. It never seemed
to work that way for me, until I discovered the secret for
tackling those daunting tasks.

The secret is simple: make things simple!

With just about every major undertaking, things can be simplified
into a handful of “core” components. That makes them manageable.
Manageable fosters productivity simply because I can work on
something that seems accomplishable. And when productivity goes
up, desired results come.

I received the following question from one of my clients…

“If you have to pick, what would you say are the top 2 or 3
things we should concentrate on? I’ve heard the
domain/site(blog) are the most important, then others say
writing info products, others say lists. For short term and
long term investment, what is the most important things to
be working on?”

This client wants things simplified. And rightly so. He knows
the secret to success is getting things down into manageable
chunks.

So, what are these core practices for building an internet
business? There are three things – and three things only – that
you need to concentrate on with your business…

1. Offer Development.

You cannot make money online unless you have an OFFER. It’s that
simple. Unless there is some way for income to be generated, you
can’t get paid. End of discussion. Every business is founded
upon a revenue-generating offer. Now, this can either be your
own offer (small reports, ebooks, membership sites, coaching/consulting,
advertising, etc.) or something you promote as an affiliate and
earn revenue for referred sales.

2. List Marketing.

The fortune is in the list. You’ve heard it an untold number of
times in the past, right? Building and profiting from opt-in lists
should be a major priority on your schedule. You need to devote
yourself to attracting new subscribers and then getting all of
your subscribers to spend money with you … by purchasing your
OFFERS (see #1 above).

3. Traffic.

The third and final thing you need to concentrate on is “traffic”.
This includes both traffic GENERATION (getting visitors to a site)
and traffic CONVERSION (getting that traffic to buy). This includes
things like: starting an affiliate program, buying PPC ads,
participating in joint ventures, utilizing viral marketing tools,
raising your visitor value, tweaking your sales pages, etc.

With each of these categories, you have a variety of options to choose
from in directing your attention. It would be foolish for me to say
“grow your affiliate program” as your number # traffic activity since
I don’t know if you even have your own product to sell. That’s why I
don’t recommend specific activities, but rather three key categories
of business-building.

With each of these categories, find 2-3 activities to work on each
week and you should see results in a short amount of time.

I recommend you work on offer development every Monday, list marketing
every Tuesday, and traffic generation every Wednesday. If you just
spend a couple hours each of these days working on these core parts
of your business, sales should come.

In a nutshell –

– Find an offer to promote.
– Setup a list to promote the offer.
– Drive traffic to the list opt-in page.

Keep it simple. Keep it successful.

One of the true unsung heros of that era was Alvin Lee and Ten Years After.

They had an amazing presence. They played their own brand of rock mixed with the blues, jazz and some down home back porch music…

Lee became somewhat of a legend with his performance at Woodstock. It was truly memorable.

Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy

I just finished reading “Eat That Frog” by Brian Tracy.

The notion is based on a quote by Mark Twain. If you start each day by eating a live frog, the rest of your day will be easy.

Tracy distills this concept to explain the need for you to tackle your most unpleasant tasks first. Prioritize your work so that you work on what things you have been putting off. The rest of your day will be a breeze.

It’s not a long book and can easily be read in one sitting. The concepts contained are powerful.

This is the kind of volume that should be kept near by as there are amazing nuggets of wisdom.

Eat That Frog!

There are other tips contained in “Eat That Frog” which will really help your productivity. The entire concept is to make you more productive.

Other gems include breaking large tasks down and make sure you schedule blocks of time to work.

Keep on Chooglin’: Creedence Rips It Out

Sometimes you get a song stuck in your head. It may come from a past memory. A smell could trigger it. You see something on televison. Or maybe conversation is the inspiration.

I just had one of those moments. I kind of felt like Billy Pilgrim; caught in the chrono-synclastic-infundibulum. (My appologies to Kurt Vonnegut).

The song that bubbled up from my memories was “Keep on Chooglin” by Creedence Clearwater Revival..

Imagine my happy surprise when I found a live version on YouTube. So here is a ripping live version:

A sad story of this band was that John Fogerty, sold all of the rights of his songs to his record producer. So he gets zero royalties from any of this music, including his most covered song: Proud Mary. (Think Tina Turner).

Years later, when he released a new album, he was sued by the same producer, because he sounded to much like himself!

He testified with guitar in hand, playing riffs of his songs before a judge.

The entire matter was appealed and ended up in the laps of the Supreme Court. Eventually he ended up winning the lawsuit and recovered all of his court costs. You can read about the lawsuit, here.

Ah, American justice.

I just love this band. They were rough and dirty. They played their own brand of Rock and Roll.
They had lots of in-fighting that ended up disbanding an incredible group of musicians.
