Remembering Janis Joplin…

Certainly one of the most amazing voices to come out of the sixties was Janis Joplin.

Janis Joplin was born in 1943 and, by her death in 1970 she had really made her mark as one of the greatest artists of all time.” Rolling Stone

Janis was the driving force behind Big Brother and the Holding Company. Later she would form the Kozmic Blues Band and later, Full Tilt Boogie. Her voice was unmistakable. The power and force that came out Janis was simply incredible.

Janis won people over with her presence, her music and her soulful presentation.

Here is Janis preforming in Germany in 1969. What an incredible power.

Janis Joplin passed away at the age of 27, in October, 1970.

She truly was an original.

You can claim some of Janis’s music right here:

The Original Original: Tom Waits

Tom Waits Ol 55I have a soft spot in my heart for Tom Waits . He’s someone who has been there and done that. He lived a life that was a mirrror of his songs. He is truly an american original. His songs speak for themselves. He is a true poet and at times a mystic. He lived on the edges of society and at times came close to falling off (and over). Ol’ 55 is a classic song.

You are probably familiar with it as sung by The Eagles  On the Border .

But Tom Waits is in a class all by himself. His music has evolved over time. He can be melodic and dreary. His voice always sounds as if he’s had to many whiskeys and cigarettes.

But he is a classic.

Probably my favorite albums of all time is Nighthawks at the Diner , which is a verbal montage of songs, stories, bars and bandits. He is a great singer and musician. He is a wonderful story teller. And that’s probably what I love about this album more than anything.

I hope you can take some time to discover Tom Waits and his musical meanderings. Have a listen:

Wayne Dyer - Get Inspired

The Power of Intention is a wonderful book written by Dr. Wayne Dyer. I have seen him and met him. He is a wonderful person who shares much of himself. He is a powerful teacher. In some ways, he reminds of of Ram Dass. This is the only dance there is.

The following videos are a presentation of Power of Intention.

“There is no way to happiness, happiness is the way…”

Very inspirational, very moving, simply amazing.

Listen, learn, enjoy. You may find other copies of the Power of Intention with some sound distortion. These are the re-mastered versions, the recording is excellent.

“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change…”
